Albert Ziegler GmbH recently met with FeuerKrebs gUG in Hamburg to discuss collaborative efforts in protecting firefighter health and preventing occupational cancer. The meeting focused on sharing practical strategies to reduce long-term health risks for emergency responders, including enhanced hygiene protocols and decontamination procedures. As part of its commitment, ZIEGLER donated €1,000 to support FeuerKrebs’s ongoing work in cancer prevention, education, and direct support for affected firefighters.
FeuerKrebs, a German non-profit organisation, presented its educational programmes and outreach efforts aimed at raising awareness of occupational cancer risks linked to firefighting activities. The organisation also provides crucial support services for firefighters who have developed cancer as a result of their work. During the meeting, both parties reviewed current hygiene practices and explored how improvements in vehicle design and station procedures could further reduce exposure to harmful contaminants.
ZIEGLER used the session to showcase its integrated hygiene and decontamination solutions, designed specifically for firefighting vehicles. The company highlighted how material choices and interior configurations can play a significant role in post-incident safety. Discussions also included potential product enhancements and areas for future collaboration, particularly in improving contaminant separation and simplifying on-site clean-up processes.
Both organisations agreed on the need for a holistic approach to firefighter protection—one that begins before deployment and continues through daily operations and training routines. FeuerKrebs Managing Director Marcus Bätge noted the value of the exchange, stating that the shared goal of comprehensive health protection extends well beyond active duty, encompassing all facets of a firefighter’s working environment. ZIEGLER echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of incorporating health and safety measures into station infrastructure and operational planning.
ZIEGLER expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with FeuerKrebs and recognised the importance of supporting initiatives that contribute to the long-term wellbeing of emergency personnel. Group Director Technology Stefan Wertheimer remarked that FeuerKrebs plays a critical role in prevention and education efforts and that the donation is a symbol of ZIEGLER’s ongoing support for this vital cause. Looking ahead, both ZIEGLER and FeuerKrebs confirmed their intention to continue working together to advance firefighter safety and health protection across Germany.
