Honeywell Selected to Upgrade Fire Alarm System at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Terminal 4

Honeywell has announced that it has been selected by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) to execute a major upgrade of the fire alarm system at Terminal 4, which accommodates over 80 airline gates across eight concourses. This initiative marks a significant investment in safety and technology at one of the country’s busiest airports.

The project involves replacing the original Honeywell fire alarm system, which has been in place since 2003, with a modernized solution featuring advanced automated devices and modules that meet the latest UL safety standards. The goal of the upgrade is to enhance emergency response capabilities, increase system performance, and ensure long-term reliability.

As part of the upgrade, the system will incorporate a digital dashboard designed to deliver actionable insights, allowing for more efficient operations. This improvement is expected to lower maintenance costs and ease the burden on airport staff—a critical factor in today’s labor-constrained environment. Additionally, maps used by operators within the Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) management platform will be updated, providing clearer visualization of alarm locations and enabling emergency personnel to respond with greater accuracy and speed.

The upgrade is scheduled for completion in 2026. Throughout the process, EBI will help maintain full fire safety protection at Terminal 4, which serves approximately 94,000 passengers on average each day.

Sudhakar Janakiraman, President of Honeywell Building Solutions, stated: “This award to enhance the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s fire alarm system reflects our commitment to delivering innovative and reliable automation solutions that protect this busy airport while also helping ensure uninterrupted operations for passengers and staff. We are honored to work on this vital safety initiative that builds on a long-standing and valued relationship.”

The project underscores Honeywell’s ongoing role as a trusted provider of mission-critical infrastructure technology in the aviation sector, helping airports meet modern safety standards while supporting operational continuity.
