Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection has introduced a new flame detection system.

Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection has introduced the Spyglass™ Xtend, a triple-infrared flame detector designed to detect both hydrogen (H2) and hydrocarbon (HC) fires simultaneously. This new technology improves safety in industrial environments, particularly where hydrogen flames can spread and ignite hydrocarbon materials, which H2-only detectors might miss.

The Spyglass™ Xtend incorporates triple-infrared technology and a specialized algorithm, offering five selectable sensitivity levels. According to Régis PRÉVOST, Product Line Manager at Teledyne GFD, the detector provides significantly longer detection ranges and quicker response times than traditional UV/IR technology, ensuring earlier flame detection, which helps protect workers and minimize damage.

Equipped with features like immunity to false alarms caused by sun glare or heavy rain, heated optics to prevent condensation, and both automatic and manual self-tests, the Spyglass™ Xtend is designed for reliable outdoor use. It meets IP66/68 and NEMA 4X/6 ingress protection ratings.

Additionally, the Spyglass™ Xtend offers various output options, including analogue 4-20 mA and optional HART® 7 digital output for easier configuration and diagnostics. It is also certified for Safety Integrity Level (SIL 2), ATEX, IECEX, and usFMc standards.
