TLX and Redline Launch PFAS-Free Battery Fire Solutions

TLX Fire & Security has partnered with Redline Fire Solutions to introduce a range of PFAS-free, bio-based firefighting agents, starting with products specifically developed to tackle lithium-ion battery fires.

The partnership aims to address the growing challenges associated with lithium-ion battery fires, particularly thermal runaway and the risk of reignition, while providing an alternative to conventional PFAS-based firefighting products facing increasing regulatory scrutiny.

According to the companies, the new firefighting agents are formulated to deliver rapid extinguishment across multiple fire classes. They are also described as non-corrosive, non-toxic and biodegradable, with all ingredients listed on the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Safer Chemical Ingredients List.

Two products target lithium-ion battery fire risks

The initial product range comprises two solutions: Thermal Stop and Thermal Shield, each designed to address different stages of lithium-ion battery fire incidents.

Thermal Stop is a patented wetting agent developed to extinguish lithium-ion battery fires and interrupt thermal runaway within seconds or minutes, using minimal water. The product is also designed for application across Class A, B, D and K fires.

Thermal Shield, meanwhile, is formulated to stabilise batteries after extinguishment, helping support their safe transportation and storage while reducing the risks associated with post-fire battery incidents.

Both products are PFAS-free, non-toxic and biodegradable. The companies also confirmed that the products have been independently certified to NFPA 18, the standard covering wetting agents.

Partnership combines firefighting expertise and international reach

Under the partnership, TLX Fire & Security will contribute to product development, manufacturing, marketing and sales. Its international market presence is expected to support wider distribution and access to the new firefighting technologies.

Redline Fire Solutions will contribute its practical firefighting experience and expertise in developing formulations designed to meet the demands of real-world fireground applications.

Phil Worsman of Redline Fire Solutions said the partnership was driven by the need to develop solutions that address the challenges faced by firefighters on the front line.

“The most effective fire protection solutions are born from the experience of those who face these dangers firsthand. As firefighters, we understand that innovation isn’t just about developing new technology. It’s about solving real-world problems, improving firefighter safety, and protecting lives, property, and the environment.

“Our mission is to bridge the gap between frontline experience and advanced fire suppression technology, ensuring the solutions we develop meet the demands of those who depend on them,” Worsman said.

TLX Fire & Security Chief Executive Neil Karolek said the companies shared a commitment to supplying effective firefighting agents that could help protect lives and property worldwide.

The collaboration represents a further development in fire suppression technology as the growing use of lithium-ion batteries across industries increases the need for specialised solutions to manage battery-related fire risks.
