Fire alarm technicians are often required to return to sites months or even years after a previous service visit, relying on information gathered by themselves or colleagues to understand the history of a system. A new app is aiming to make that site knowledge easier to capture and retrieve.
The iPhone and iPad app is intended to bring customer records, service notes, photographs, scanned documents and site information together around individual accounts. Technicians can also record locations for features such as fire alarm panels, riser rooms, entrances and technician parking.
According to Bannerman, the concept came from his own experience as a fire alarm service technician. Information collected during a service call can be valuable when a technician returns to the same property, but may otherwise become difficult to locate among photographs, notes and other records.
FireVault Pro is designed to retain that information against the customer account, allowing technicians to build a longer-term record of a site rather than relying solely on information captured during an individual visit.
The platform also includes a GPS Trip Log, reports and automatic field-media backup, with access extending beyond the mobile app through CarPlay and a companion web portal.
Bannerman has more than 40 years of technical field experience across alarm, security and related low-voltage systems, with the last decade focused primarily on fire alarm service, according to the company.
While the software was developed from experience in the US fire alarm market, the underlying challenge is familiar to service organisations operating elsewhere: ensuring that important information about a fire detection and alarm installation remains available to technicians when they need it.
For fire alarm contractors and service teams, this type of site history can be particularly relevant where technicians may be responsible for maintaining multiple systems across large portfolios of commercial, residential, industrial or infrastructure sites. The value of such tools will ultimately depend on how effectively they integrate into existing service procedures and how securely customer and system information is handled.
FireVault Pro is scheduled to launch internationally on October 1, in English, with pricing announced at $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually.
