SightLogix Expands Thermal AI for Large Security Perimeters

SightLogix has launched two fixed thermal cameras designed to provide wider perimeter coverage while potentially reducing the number of devices and supporting infrastructure required across large security sites.

The new SightSensor NS12 and TC12 use 1280×1024 thermal imagers. According to SightLogix, the higher-resolution sensors can cover approximately 2.5 times the area of conventional 640×480 thermal systems.

The cameras are designed for environments such as utility substations, data centres, airports, ports, logistics facilities and large industrial campuses.

Wider coverage with fewer devices

Large perimeter security systems can require extensive networks of cameras, poles, cabling and other infrastructure. SightLogix says the wider field coverage of the NS12 and TC12 can help reduce that infrastructure while maintaining continuous monitoring across large areas.

Both cameras use AI-based classification across the full inbound detection area. The system is designed to distinguish potential intruders from environmental movement before an alert reaches security operators.

This is particularly relevant for large outdoor sites, where wind, vegetation, wildlife and other environmental activity can generate unwanted alarms.

Thermal detection meets visual verification

The NS12 is offered with two lens configurations and provides inbound detection distances of up to 310 metres.

The TC12 combines the same thermal imaging technology with a 4K visible-light camera in a single unit. Its thermal and visible-light AI systems operate simultaneously and can cross-validate detections before an alert is generated.

By combining thermal and visible cameras in one device, the system is designed to provide both initial detection and visual confirmation without requiring separate cameras, cabling and IP addresses.

Edge AI processing

Both models run on SightLogix’s Gen7 edge-processing platform.

The company says Gen7 provides 20 times the AI processing throughput of previous generations. For the TC12, this enables thermal and 4K visible-light video streams to be processed directly on the camera rather than relying on cloud-based processing.

Processing data at the edge can be particularly useful for security applications where rapid detection, network efficiency and continuous operation are important.

Integration with PTZ tracking

The cameras can also operate alongside SightLogix’s SightTracker PTZ system.

When a detection occurs, the system can provide GPS coordinates to direct the PTZ camera toward the target for closer visual tracking. This creates a layered approach in which fixed thermal cameras provide wide-area detection while PTZ cameras can be used for more detailed observation.

SightLogix CEO Jim Hahn said the new cameras were developed for large critical-infrastructure and industrial environments where broad perimeter coverage and infrastructure costs are significant considerations.

The NS12 and TC12 are now available to order. SightLogix positions the cameras as an additional layer of protection that can operate alongside technologies such as radar and fence-line detection.

The launch reflects a broader shift in perimeter security toward combining thermal imaging, AI classification, edge computing and automated tracking to monitor increasingly large and complex sites with fewer physical devices.
