Siemens Smart Infrastructure has reported strong market interest in its Cerberus Nova range of connected fire detectors following its UK launch, highlighting growing demand for data-driven fire safety systems.
The Cerberus Nova range uses IoT connectivity to provide continuous self-checks, real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance. The technology is designed to help building operators identify potential issues earlier while reducing service interruptions and the need for manual inspections.
The detectors are being offered across the Middle East and Africa in markets that accept Siemens’ EN54 portfolio. Siemens reports interest from sectors including data centres, healthcare, higher education and commercial buildings, where system availability and operational continuity are particularly important.
Continuous Detector Monitoring
Two technologies are central to the Cerberus Nova range: Disturbance-Free Testing (DFT) and Smoke Entry Supervision (SES).
DFT continuously checks detector functionality, potentially reducing downtime and the need for service interruptions associated with conventional on-site testing.
SES monitors the detector’s smoke-entry points in real time. If the system identifies a condition that could affect detector performance, it can alert users and allow corrective action before the problem develops further.
The detectors also use Siemens’ ASAplus technology, which combines multi-wavelength optical detection with dual thermal detection. The system is designed to distinguish genuine fire conditions from potential false-alarm sources, helping reduce unnecessary alarms and operational disruption.
Robert Yates, Siemens’ head of building products fire safety in the UK, said the market response reflects a broader shift towards cloud-connected and self-supervising fire safety systems.
“The trend in fire safety is very much towards cloud-connectivity,” Yates said, adding that data-driven systems capable of automatically testing themselves can contribute to smarter and increasingly autonomous buildings.
Focus on Sustainability
The Cerberus Nova range also incorporates environmental considerations. Siemens says the detectors are manufactured using recycled plastic and carry its EcoTech environmental product performance label.
The development demonstrates how IoT, remote monitoring and automated diagnostics are being integrated into modern fire detection systems, with the aim of improving system visibility, maintenance efficiency and building safety.
