WIOCC Group has secured a combined US$300 million investment from Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and Vision International Investment Company (Vision Invest) to support the expansion of digital infrastructure across Africa.
The investment follows a Shareholder Subscription Agreement signed at LEAP 2026 in Riyadh and is expected to fund the development of data centres, terrestrial fibre networks and subsea connectivity infrastructure.
The investment comes as demand for data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence services continues to grow across the continent. According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), 35.7% of Africa’s population was using the internet in 2025, compared with a global average of 73.6%.
WIOCC operates across more than 30 African countries, providing open-access digital infrastructure for connectivity and data services. Its shareholder base includes African telecommunications operators as well as international development and investment institutions.
AFC President and CEO Samaila Zubairu said the investment would help expand the digital infrastructure required to support businesses and communities participating in Africa’s growing digital economy.
WIOCC Group CEO Chris Wood said the funding would support the company’s long-term expansion plans, including accelerating data-centre deployment and consolidation, extending its terrestrial fibre network and investing in additional subsea assets.
Vision Invest President and CEO Omar N. Al-Midani said continued investment in connectivity and digital ecosystems would be increasingly important as demand for digital services expands across African markets.
Growing demand for resilient infrastructure
The expansion of data centres and other critical digital infrastructure also highlights the growing importance of fire protection, physical security, monitoring and resilience.
As more data and essential digital services move through these facilities, operators face increasing requirements to protect critical equipment and maintain continuity of operations. Data-centre development therefore creates opportunities for technologies and services spanning fire detection and suppression, access control, surveillance, environmental monitoring and infrastructure protection.
The latest investment will bring AFC and Vision Invest into WIOCC’s shareholder base and strengthen the company’s capacity to expand its connectivity and digital infrastructure footprint across Africa.
