Blackline Safety fire-hazmat customer base grows with new wearable product offerings

Blackline Safety has announced significant growth among fire and hazmat customers, as it now supports approximately 500 fire departments globally with its connected personal and area monitors.

With a 42 per cent increase in fire-hazmat customers in the last year, the company has reported increased popularity in its gas and radiation offerings too.

For example, its EXO 8 gas and radiation detector is the world’s only direct-to-cloud portable area monitor capable of detecting up to eight gases, plus gamma radiation.

Deputy Chief Tyler O’Neill of the Burnaby Fire Department in British Columbia, Canada said: “EXOs deploy as fast as you can take them out of the box and turn them on.

“The plume modelling takes the guesswork out of how the plume is going to move in real time. Now that we have that data, we’re able to make decisions quicker. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending it.”

While at its core, it’s supposed to detect and protect, it’s also been tried and tested in other ways to ensure it’s an all-round robust device.

“The EXO 8 is firefighter-proof — we’ve dropped it, knocked it over, had it in high heat, and it just keeps going,” said Assistant Chief Robert Thompson of the Chattanooga Fire Department in Tennessee. “The battery life is incredible. We can run it for entire events without worrying about charging. It gives us accurate readings we can trust, even in tough conditions.”

In light of the advancements, Blackline Safety’s latest technologies will be showcasing the EXO 8 and more at Booth 743 at FDIC International 2026 in Indianapolis, until April 25.
