Hale introduces next generation QMAX-APX fire pump

Hale’s new QMAX-APX fire pump builds on the established performance of its widely specified midship QMAX range while targeting the evolving needs of modern fire apparatus design.

The QMAX-APX retains the high waterflow, durability, and serviceability associated with its predecessor but incorporates a more modular architecture aimed at simplifying OEM engineering. The redesign also prepares fire apparatus for future emissions regulations and increasingly connected fireground operations.

The pump has been developed with standardisation at its core, allowing multiple configurations from a single base platform. This approach is intended to reduce complexity for manufacturers while maintaining consistent performance across different apparatus builds. Hale said the design also addresses packaging challenges associated with larger exhaust aftertreatment systems, without compromising access or output.

Key updates include compatibility with future engine platforms, increased driveline torque capacity, reduced noise, and a maintenance-free mechanical seal as standard. The pump is also lighter, while maintaining full QMAX flow, and features additional sensor ports to support expanded monitoring capabilities.

“These updates give OEMs flexibility without compromise,” said Dylan Bucci, Product Manager at Hale. “The next generation QMAX-APX streamlines engineering, integrates cleanly with modern emissions systems, and still delivers precise control of water when split-second adjustments make the difference.”

The QMAX-APX has also been designed with connectivity in mind. Integration with Hale’s Captium system and FireLink gateway enables enhanced telemetry, diagnostics, and operational insight. The pump is compatible with technologies such as SAM and BOOST, supporting more data-driven fireground performance.
