LEADER GROUP Expands Firefighting Portfolio with MERCEDES TEXTILES Acquisition

LEADER GROUP has strengthened its position in the global firefighting and emergency response industry through the acquisition of Canadian manufacturer MERCEDES TEXTILES, expanding its portfolio of specialist firefighting equipment and reinforcing its presence in the North American market.

The acquisition combines LEADER GROUP’s expertise in emergency response technologies with MERCEDES TEXTILES’ long-established capabilities in manufacturing fire hoses, portable pumps and firefighting fittings, creating a broader range of integrated solutions for fire and rescue services worldwide.

For Africa’s growing urban centres, industrial facilities and wildland firefighting operations, access to advanced firefighting equipment is becoming increasingly important as governments and emergency services invest in modern technologies to improve disaster preparedness, fire suppression and public safety.

Founded in 1979 in Quebec, MERCEDES TEXTILES has built an international reputation for designing and manufacturing equipment used by municipal, industrial, military and wildland firefighting organisations. Through its subsidiaries—MERCEDES TEXTILES Ltd., HIGHWATER HOSE Inc. and HYDRO-WICK INDUSTRIES Ltd.—the company exports its products to more than 50 countries.

According to LEADER GROUP, the acquisition supports its long-term international growth strategy by strengthening its North American operations while expanding its capabilities in wildland firefighting and increasing global market access for MERCEDES TEXTILES through the Group’s international distribution network.

The transaction represents another step in LEADER GROUP’s evolution from a specialist equipment manufacturer into a global provider of comprehensive firefighting and rescue solutions. Since 2021, the company has significantly expanded its business through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions, including ZELUP in France and C.E.T. Fire Pumps in Canada.

The enlarged product portfolio now covers a wide range of emergency response equipment, including fluorine-free firefighting foam concentrates, nozzles, monitors, portable fire pumps, fire ventilation systems, search and rescue equipment, high-performance fire hoses and associated firefighting accessories.

Commenting on the acquisition, Miguel Ferreira, President and Chief Executive Officer of LEADER GROUP, described the transaction as a major milestone in the company’s international expansion.

He said the addition of MERCEDES TEXTILES strengthens the Group’s presence in North America while broadening its portfolio of solutions designed specifically for firefighting and rescue professionals. He added that the complementary expertise of both companies would enable LEADER GROUP to deliver more innovative, comprehensive and high-performance solutions, all aimed at supporting emergency responders in their mission to save lives.

As Africa continues investing in urban infrastructure, industrial development and wildfire management, demand for reliable, high-quality firefighting equipment is expected to grow. Strategic partnerships and acquisitions that expand product innovation and improve access to advanced emergency response technologies will play an increasingly important role in strengthening fire and rescue capabilities across the continent.
