Cygnus launches new Site Survey kit and Portal Programming Unit for SmartNet fire detection

Cygnus has introduced two new tools to streamline the setup and maintenance of its SmartNet wireless fire detection and alarm system.

The Site Survey kit is designed to assist in planning and deploying the SmartNet system by simulating the network environment, making it possible to test compatibility with specific locations. Featuring three custom detectors, the kit allows installers to assess signal strength and connectivity, which is especially beneficial for sites with structural challenges, like thick walls or steel enclosures, and for L5 category systems. This tool helps ensure a robust and reliable network from the start by enabling precise sensor placement.

By conducting an initial survey, Cygnus staff can confirm the control panel’s connectivity to devices and demonstrate communication paths across the site, allowing for smoother installations and reduced maintenance. The Site Survey kit, along with the Cygnus Mesh Analyser and ALERT monitoring platform, offers installers additional resources for network reliability. The Mesh Analyser software visualizes the network, showing signal strengths and connection paths while recommending performance enhancements. Meanwhile, the cloud-based Cygnus ALERT platform provides real-time monitoring and notifications, ensuring rapid responses to system events and faults to maintain site safety.

The new Portal Programming Unit (PPU) complements the Site Survey kit by enabling wireless firmware updates and device reconfiguration without requiring physical access. This capability is especially useful in hard-to-reach installations. The PPU allows installers to update device firmware and reconfigure settings remotely, minimizing disruption and time spent on maintenance.

Stephen Marsh, Head of Sales at Cygnus, expressed enthusiasm about the new tools, emphasizing their role in providing enhanced support from project design to ongoing maintenance. The EN 54 certified SmartNet system, known for its scalability and robust wireless design, offers flexible solutions that range from the SmartNet-Pro, supporting over 2,500 devices, to the SmartNet-100, suitable for connecting up to 100 devices through a single control panel.

The new Site Survey kit and PPU extend Cygnus’s range of commissioning tools, strengthening the company’s commitment to efficient, reliable fire safety solutions. These tools allow installers and system managers to achieve optimal network performance and streamline system management, reinforcing SmartNet’s position as a dependable, fully wireless fire detection solution.
